LD Type 1000 Ton Rotary Slip

Item Code: 8549

As a result of its continuing commitment to product development, Forum has designed the 1000 Ton Load Distributing Rotary Slip (patent pending). The slip, which incorporates some unique and innovative features, is designed to address the problems that can arise from the ever increasing drill string loads now being encountered in deep water drilling. It is the highest rated API manufactured rotary slip on the market today.

In conventional slips the bottom ledge of the slip segment, on which the bottom inserts sit, tends to carry a disproportionately large amount of the load on the slip. Failure of a slip has traditionally tended to manifest itself in bending or toeing outward of the bottom of the slip segment on this ledge.

In the new “LD” Type Rotary Slip, each insert rests on its own independent ledge, and in this way the load is more evenly distributed over the full vertical height of all inserts in the slip. This design reduces the importance of the slip toe, thereby reducing the possibility of slip toe failure.

The design of the “LD” Slip allows the full insert contact area to be retained, thus reducing the possibility of crushing the pipe.

The slip comes with a floating hinge pin design which allows the three slip segments to move individually and equally towards the center of the pipe. This allows all segments to transmit equal forces towards the center of the drill pipe as the string weight increases.

Each slip is load tested to its rated capacity before shipment and will come with full documentation including material certifications, proof load test certification, magnetic particle inspection and operating and service manual.

Features

  • Each insert supported by its own ledge
  • Floating hinge pin design
  • Handles a wide range of tubulars (5″ – 7″) by changing inserts
  • Reduces the load on the slip toe

Benefits

  • Load is distributed over the slips full verticle height
  • Full insert contact area is retained
  • Reduces possibility of slip failure
  • Can be used in conjunction with the Access Backsaver® to reduce fatigue
